This post is not about how to increase the actual number of subscriber, it’s more about how to make sure all your subscribers are counted in your statistics. Why do you need to make sure all your subscribers are counted in your stats? Well it’s always more fun to write when you got more subscribers and sponsors/advertisers tend to spend more money on blogs with more readers . This little tip requires that you use Feedburner for your feed statistics and that you got Wordpress for your blog.

Even if you everywhere on your blog got your Feedburner counter and a link to your Feedburner feed some of your subscribers will be left out of your statistics. That’s possible because some users will subscribe to your feed using the RSS feed button found in the address bar of their web browser:

This can of course be fixed easily with a little plugin that is now a part of Feedburner (this was a plugin created by an Feedburner enthusiast). Don’t sak me why but I find it hard to find the plugin on their web site

The installation is really easy:

1. Download the plugin from Feedburners web site (actually from the google.com web site )
2. Upload the plugin to your plugin directory and activate it in your admin area
3. Visit the settings of your blog and fill in the location of your Feedburner feed. If you got your Feedburner feeds under your own domain name like we do it will still work:
   

By just installing this plugin on one of our blogs almost doubled the number of subscribers shown in the Feedburner statistics overnight:

Did the plugin have a similar effect on your Feedburner statistics?

I don’t log in that often to check my Feedburner statistics, but I did today and got a real chock . According to Feedburner Xavier Media didn’t have any subscribers at all to any of our feeds . I guess it must be some kind of problem since I don’t think everyone unsubscribed over night (we had subscribers yesterday).

Did anyone else see this problem?

These days a lot of people are using their mobile phones, PDAs and iPhones to surf the web. So more and more people are actually looking for just your fantastic content with handheld devices, but can they find your content?

If you got a blog in Wordpress it’s actually easy to make a mobile version of your blog. You don’t really need to to that much work at all, just install a plugin and all your blog posts will be available in a mobile format for smaller screens.

I for example found a good plugin I like. It’s called wp-pda and will be installed in just a few seconds (no settings to change, just plug it in).

To install the plugin you just upload the files in your plugin directory and you’re ready to go. Once you’ve activated your plugin anyone visiting your blog with mobile phone, PDA or iPhone will see your content in a stripped down version.

The best part of this plugin is that you don’t have to tell your visitors a new URL just for the mobile blog. They simply just visit the same URL they always do when they want your content

What I don’t like is that the visitors see the normal blog page when they click on a link in your mobile version I hope that’s just a settings problem or something and that it will be corrected in future versions. I also need to figure out how Google and the other search engines will find the new mobile version and redirect the searchers to that page instead of the normal blog. I guess you should be able to use the mobile sitemaps in Google somehow.

Does anyone know if Google is using another user agent for their spider when it’s looking for mobile content?
