Updated list of pagerank 10 sites

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I decided to update my list of Pagerank 10 websites I posted earlier since Google is said to have updated their pagerank. So here’s the updated list:

  • validator.w3.org Downgraded to PR9
  • web.mit.edu
  • www.adobe.com
  • www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/index.html New on the list
  • www.adobe.com/downloads/ New on the list
  • www.adobe.com/products/index.html New on the list
  • www.adobe.com/downloads/ New on the list
  • www.apple.com/quicktime/download Downgraded to PR9
  • www.doe.gov New on the list
  • www.energy.gov
  • www.keio.ac.jp Downgraded to PR9
  • www.mac.com Downgraded to PR9
  • www.macromedia.com (redirected to adobe.com)
  • www.microsoft.com Downgraded to PR9 (could be because I was redirected to www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx)
  • www.usa.gov/index.shtml New on the list
  • www.w3.org
  • www.yahoo.com Downgraded to PR9

One of the more funny things about the update of pagerank is that both Yahoo and Microsoft got downgraded. Could it be because of the proposed merger between the two?

I used the Google toolbar in Firefox to check these sites so I may have missed someone :( . In that case, please let me know and I’ll update the list.

Update in Google pagerank?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

A lot of blogs (Still a PR0, Google page rank updating, but…, Google PageRank is Updating, Woo Hoo! I finally got a decent PageRank!) are reporting about an update in the Google Pagerank. Some got increased pagerank some didn’t see any change at all.

ProBlogger.com has been notified about the update from 47 people, so we can say for sure that at least 47 blogs have seen a change in PR :D .

So far I haven’t seen any change in PR for any of Xavier Media’s sites, but as usual it may take some time for the pagerank to be updated all over the globe depending on which one of Googles all datacenters you access. Every time it’s the same thing with the data centers and some people never learn that the update takes about 24-48 hours to be seen all over the world. Maybe in a few days we’ll finally know how this update rewarded or punished our sites and blogs :D

.ME Sunrise Starts

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

The sunrise period for the .ME top level domain has started and will end on the 20th of May 2008. A sunrise period is when trademark holders can register their trademarks as domain names in a new top level domain like country code domain .ME.

After the sunrise period closes, domain names requested by multiple trademark-holders will be auctioned between the requesting parties.

Dot ME is the new top level domain for Montenegro which used to be a part of Serbia and Montenegro with .YU as top level domain. The .ME registry is operated by University of Montenegro on behalf of the government.

After the 17th of July the registrations will be open to anyone and not only trademark holders.

If you would like to pre-register your own .ME domain you may do so at eXavier.com for 5 or 10 years at the time.

Life On The Internet Is One Long Rollercoaster!

Friday, April 25th, 2008

To those on the outside looking in, life on the internet looks like a bed of roses with “everyone” making big bucks and living the highlife. Oh, if only that was the case!

The problem with life on the internet is time, and the lack of it, there is never enough time to do what you need to with your sites and also live a “normal” life offline. Many business people have actually seen their lives change once the internet bug takes hold, because while partners and children enjoy the comfort which a successful business can bring, time with the family can be very much at a premium.

The press seem to have built up the online industry into something which is out of the reach of the masses, when in reality it is well within the reach of everybody if they are prepared to work for it. We hear about the multi-millionaires who grace the front pages, the sites which started from nothing and were sold for hundreds of millions of dollars – but this is not real life.

Why do people believe all of the hype about the internet? Nobody goes into an offline business thinking that everyone else is a multi-millionaire, so why is the internet different?

While the costs of operating on the internet have fallen substantially over the last 20 years, the general public does not seem to appreciate this. They see an industry which has spawned hundreds if not thousands of millionaires and they think it is out of their reach. In reality, life on the internet is tough, the hours are long and it can only take on tweak of the Google algorithms and your whole business can come crashing down.

The internet is an ever changing beast and the while the overall market is enormous, more and more of the big players are taking the lions share, leaving the small business sector to fight over the scraps!
