Microsoft Quietly Making Millions on Misspellings

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

I just read a something really terrible at DailyDomainer.com. Every time you type in an URL in the address bar in Internet Explorer and misspell the domain name you end up at a Microsoft web site filled with paid links. Sometimes the ads can even be links to your competitors :(

The worst part is that Microsoft is not alone to earn money on your misspelled links, Earthlink started a similar service in September and Verisign tried the same thing in 2003.

Will you be sure that you end up at the correct site when you type in an address in the future? What if the companies try to get personal information like bank details or credit card numbers from you at the same time when you end up at a misspelled domain?

Get your site listed in our UK directory

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Now you can get listed in our UK directory completely free, all that’s required is a link back to our site. If you don’t want to link back to us you can of course add your site anyway for as little as $1. Visit www.xaviermedia.co.uk for more information or to find some useful web sites :D

Why do you need to add your site in our directory?

The more web sites that link to your site the higher PageRank you get, and the higher PageRank you get the higher up in the search results your site will show up, the higher up in the search results your site end up the more people will find your site and buy your products or services :D Directories are good :)

.mobi vs .tel

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

There are two “new” top level domains (TLDs) out there right now intended for web sites for any kind of phone services. .mobi is mainly focusing on mobile services and .tel on the more wider telecom industry in general. It’s nice to get new TLDs, but do we really need them? Ok, good .com domain are very rare someone may say, but I got my good domains registered so I don’t really care :D Just kidding, I also agree that many good .com domains are already occupied. What you shouldn’t forget is that you also have .net, .biz, .org and may more…

Jay Westerdal is comparing the two new TLDs .tel and .mobi in his blog over at Domain Tool. I don’t agree with him at 100% because a lot of people will simply go to Google to find a place to buy flowers. Or they may even do what I usually do: Go directly to the flower shop, buy flowers and deliver them personally instead of having someone else deliver the flowers. That way you may get a hug or a kiss back :D
